18 million out-of-school children: 34 states ditch UBE grants as unused funds surpass N135b

• Seven northern states fail to access N9.65b; S’West N9.4b; S’East N12.9b
• Only Katsina, Kaduna accessed Q1, Q2 2024 matching grants
• Yet to retrieve from 2021, 2022, 2023 grants: Abia (N4.28b), Imo (N3.54b), Ogun (N4.26b)

 
Despite growing concerns about the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the country, state governors have continued to shun the Universal Basic Education (UBE) funds initiative.
