The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called on the National Assembly to review President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, saying that the move may amount to an impeachable offense.
The party described the President’s decision as unconstitutional, noting that it undermines Nigeria’s democratic institutions and constitutes a serious breach of the 1999 Constitution, which it said serves as the bedrock of Nigeria’s governance.
The party, in a statement Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, argued that Tinubu’s suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly was an abuse of executive power that must not go unchallenged.
