Edo confirms 38 Lassa fever cases in Etsako-West, 24 in Esan-West

Confirms one new death, fatality rises to 10EDO State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, yesterday, said Etsako West, Esan West and Esan North East were the most affected councils by Lassa fever in the state, urging for the collaboration of residents to contain the pandemic across all communities in the state.

Addressing journalists in Benin City, the commissioner said the government had continued to step up surveillance and response activities to curb the spread of the disease and ensure the health and well-being of residents in the state.

Obehi said the state had confirmed one more death from the disease in Esan West Council, raising the total number of fatalities to 10.

She said Edo State has recorded 97 confirmed cases of the disease, adding that the three most affected cases account for 75 per cent of confirmed cases in the state.
