Judges must not circumvent constitution for digital revolution, CJN cautions

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has tasked Judges and senior members of the Bench to ensure national laws are not eroded in the face of global digital revolution.

Although Justice Ariwoola contended that the borderless digital realm posed critical challenge to traditional jurisdictional boundaries, he maintained that Judges must ensure the revolution did not circumvent the provisions of constitution.

The CJN gave the caution on Monday when he declared open, a workshop for Judges on Legal Issues in Telecommunications, organized by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with Nigeria Judicial Institute (NJI) in Kano.

Speaking on the theme, “The Adjudication Path in a Digital Era”, Justice Ariwoola who is also the Chairman of National Judicial Council (NJC), explained that technology has fundamentally transformed how Judicial officers communicate, and conduct legal proceedings.
