Lagos State government has revealed that property worth N19.52 billion were lost to fire incidents, while N117.12 billion worth of property were saved from being destroyed by fire in 2024.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this, while providing details about the agency’s activities in 2024, during its 2025 staff engagement themed, mobilising workforce towards fire risk reduction and preparedness
She also said that 450 victims were rescued alive from fire incidents, while 91 persons were recovered dead from fire incidents.
Adeseye further said the agency 1952 emergency calls and 578 false calls. According to the fire service boss, of the 1952 emergency calls, fire calls were the highest with 1607 calls, followed by 172 salvage calls, 150 rescue calls, 15 collapsed building calls and 8 explosion calls.
