Progress on SDGs can’t achieve 2030 targets, experts warn

• Says Africa still accounts for 54.8% of global poverty

Development experts have expressed dismay over the slow pace of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), noting that it is insufficient to achieve the 2030 targets.

Although they said Africa was making progress in SDG 12 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, they cautioned that the current pace of progress was insufficient to achieve the goals.

They raised the concerns through a report produced by a team of professionals convened by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the African Union Commission, the United Nations Development Programme Regional Bureau for Africa (UNDP-RBA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB) ahead of the 10th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-10) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
