Red Cross urges persons with disabilities to report abuse

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Plateau State chapter, has empowered vulnerable persons in the 17 local government areas to enable them to tackle abuses.

Director of Protection, Gender, and Inclusion, Fatima Ibrahim Nasir, made the disclosure, to Journalists in Jos, over the weekend, immediately after she held a capacity-building workshop to assist the vulnerable with funds and kits in a public lecture.

“We realize they are the most vulnerable among the vulnerable, and they don’t really have channels—or they don’t know where to channel their complaints.

“We gathered them today to let them know that the Red Cross has a platform where they can come to us, forward their complaints, especially issues around exploitation and abuse—people taking advantage of their disability to abuse or harass them.”
