Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore will appear in Abuja today before the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on an allegation of obstruction. In the letter titled “Investigation Activities: Invitation Letter,” the Nigeria Police, through Commissioner of Police, Operations, CP Ibitoye Rufus Alajide, said it was investigating cases of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful order, acts intended to cause grievous harm or prevent arrest, compelling action by intimidation, reckless and negligent acts, refusal to assist a public servant, and cyberstalking.
On January 9, Sowore challenged police officers attached to the Makinde Police Station who were stopping motorists at the 7&8 Bus Stop on Murtala Mohammed Airport Road, Lagos.
“It has been observed that the police officers have been causing traffic congestion on the route while stopping vehicles for stop and search,” he said.
