Energy Commission of Nigeria came to being through the Decree No. 62 of 1979, as amended by Decrees No. 32 of 1988 and No. 19 of 1989, now encapsulated in ECN Act, E10, LFN (2004).
The Commission commenced operation in 1989 after the meeting of the heads of ECOWAS in 1982 at Cotonou, where a resolution was made that each member state should establish an agency to be called Energy Commission charged with the responsibilities of coordinating and supervising all energy functions and activities of each member state.
The commission’s vision is to ensure secured, equitable and environmentally sustainable energy supply for the nation’s economic and socio-political development.
